Chilled beams technology in its various forms is becoming more common in a variety of building types.
What are they, how do they operate, the potential for energy saving and how to apply them in various
building types is the focus of the presentation. One of the major concerns often expressed by designers
is the risk of condensation. The condensation risk and various methods for minimizing the potential of
condensation are discussed.
The presenter is the chair of the AHRI certification standard under developement and also chairs the
ASHRAE method of testing being developed. The current status of both standards will be presented and
discussed.
To allow the attendee to see these devices are often incorporated into the building esthetics, a series of
installations will be shown and discussed. Building types include laboratories; office spaces; atriums;
educational facilities such as school classrooms, dormitories and patient rooms. Availability of design
tools will be discussed as well as space mock‐ups and computational fluid mechanics (CFD).
